I could not wait to Blog about this! I LOVE going to Safehaven. I never leave with an animal, we have two cats and a very playful chihuahua but as soon as the need for a new family member arises I know where I'm going: Safehaven Humane Society.

The people who work there are simply amazing. This guy (above) drives in over an hour (one way) to work with these animals and help nurse them back to health. This poor kitten was found with no mama in sight and the Humane Society is solely responsible for him still being alive.

One thing I wanted to really let you all know is that Safehaven is going above and beyond for families in need right now. For those families facing touch economic times, one of the first things that gets cut out of their budget is the needs of their animals. Safehaven has a pantry available for those families so that their pets do not starve. Safehaven is always accepting donations of pet food. We are going to start putting together a monthly care package for the animals. If you would like to get involved please email me ckites@kw.com.

Did you know that "Zip" a K9 on the Linn County Sherrifs School Resources wasn't "born to such a glamorous life he took a rather long road getting here. Zip, a mixed breed, was found in a local animal shelter by the Oregon Department of Corrections’ Master K9 Trainer. - On any given school day you’ll probably find Deputy Greg Amo and his K9 partner Zip in the halls of one of the public schools in Linn County. Deputy Amo is a School Resource Officer for the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. Zip is Deputy Amo’s detection dog, trained to sniff-out illegal drugs and alert his handler to their presence."
